The four-AA-star Goodwood hotel has announced plans for a multimillion-pound refurbishment and expansion.

A planning application has been submitted to add a new wing to the 91-bedroom hotel, designed by architects 3D Reid, which will create an additional 16 bedrooms. It is hoped that work will start on the new building later this year. The hotel will remain open throughout the 40-week project.

The wider hotel will also undergo an extensive renovation overseen by Leveson Design which will reference the former historic walled garden which once existed on the site and see the creation of a new reception area and reconfiguration of public spaces.

Located within the 12,000-acre Goodwood Estate owned by the Earl of March, the hotel plays an integral role in the ground’s annual Festival of Speed, Qatar Goodwood Festival and Goodwood Revival.

Andrew Coggings, Goodwood’s entertaining and hospitality managing director, said: “We are hugely excited about this opportunity – the biggest redesign in the hotel’s history – and have spent months carefully planning the project with support from the UK’s best designers and architects to ensure the project is carried out with the meticulous attention to detail for which Goodwood is renowned.”

“We hope that the project will create new jobs in the hotel and come as a massive lift to the local economy as we believe in using skilled local contractors for the work.”

The Goodwood hotel is the home to the two-AA-rosette Farmer, Butcher, Chef restaurant, overseen by chef Darron Bunn and which showcases Goodwood’s organic farm produce.
